A grid-forming breakthrough
In April, Datang Wenchang's 100 MW / 200 MWh grid-forming storage demonstration completed a regional black start and a 110 kV artificial short-circuit test, the province's first independent grid-forming storage plant. It proves a pure-renewable independent grid is possible: paired with PV, storage actively supports stability instead of merely following it. For Yantai's ports and industrial parks, adding grid-forming thinking to solar-storage-charging would raise both resilience and self-sufficiency.
Heavy-truck charge and swap
The Baimajing solar-storage-charge super station has 40 high-power terminals and serves about 200 heavy-truck replenishments a day, the province's largest. CATL's Qiji has launched the first round-island heavy-truck swap network; 13 heavy-truck charge-swap stations are built and the heavy-truck electrification rate has reached 36.1 percent. Charge and swap together prove more robust than either alone.
The real value of one platform
The one-network platform brings 6,027 charging stations, 110 swap stations and 75,900 public guns under unified management, basically one app for the whole island. Interconnection and unified settlement are what make finding a pile easy. If Dongshang New Energy's Yantai community and public network later joins a regional platform, residents would recharge seamlessly across compounds and sites.
Yantai's coastal location, port logistics and Shandong power-market reform offer similar conditions. A pragmatic path starts with urban public stations and scenic carports adding PV canopies and storage, then merging scattered sites into one platform to avoid duplicate builds and data silos. Property and community coordination is the key link to residents.
