Charging for Hotels and Guesthouses in Yantai

Overnight AC for guests, short-stay DC for visitors — turning the chargers from a cost line into a service feature and a revenue stream.

EV drivers now check one extra box before booking a room: can I charge here? On major booking platforms charging facilities are a filterable tag, and for business-travel and conference guests the answer can decide the booking. For a hotel the value has three layers: the guest's peace of mind, the reviews and word-of-mouth among EV owners, and — if visitor bays are open to passing traffic — direct charging and parking income. The catch is configuration: we have seen hotels install DC fast chargers as the main offering, take on heavy investment and grid pressure, and still leave guests wanting what they actually need — one slow night of charging.

Slow for guests, fast for visitors

A hotel guest stays 10–14 hours. In that window a 7kW AC charger adds 300–400 km of range — enough for nearly every guest — while drawing little power and costing about a tenth of a DC unit. Our standard layout:

  • Guest bays, underground garage — 7kW AC at 10–20% of total parking spaces, prioritised near lift lobbies.
  • Visitor bays, ground level — one or two 60–120kW DC units for non-guests and passing traffic, 30–60-minute stops, combinable with parking fees.
  • Staff and back-of-house — where employees ride e-bikes, a 10–20 port station with shelter.

If grid headroom is thin, phase it: AC first, DC circuits reserved, expand when capacity allows.

The two real constraints: bays and power

Bays. Hotel parking is scarce, and a charging bay blocked by a combustion car is double waste. Our standard triple defence is a lock or plate-recognition barrier, painted bay markings and front-desk messaging — the bay releases only to a car that is actually charging. Power. Hotel distribution usually beats a housing compound, but summer air-conditioning peaks eat the margin. At survey we pull twelve months of peak data and clamp-test the distribution room: ten 7kW AC units draw about 70 kW simultaneous, which most hotels absorb without an upgrade; a 120kW DC unit usually needs a dedicated circuit or capacity work. Also check cable routes early — garage trays already carry weak-current, fire and ventilation lines, and agreeing the new power-tray path with the engineering department is where hotel projects most often lose schedule.

Billing and the front desk: never let a guest fail to charge

Four out of five hotel charging complaints are not faults — they are "could not pay" or "did not know whom to ask". We counter with three habits:

  • Payment without friction. Scan and charge, WeChat or Alipay, no app download, no forced wallet top-up; an unregistered user can still complete one session.
  • Front-desk fallback. The desk can start a charge on behalf of a guest and end it manually; a one-page instruction sits by the bays so any receptionist resolves the issue inside a minute.
  • Prices in the open. The same electricity-plus-service tariff appears on the booking page, in the lobby and on the bay signage — no disputes at checkout.

For chains, the platform keeps separate ledgers per property with a group-level dashboard, and finance exports reconciliation per hotel.

Commercial model and operations

Three routes, priced out in the proposal so the hotel chooses: operator builds — we fund equipment, construction, platform and O&M against a share of service-fee revenue, electricity settled by meter; best for zero-investment, zero-maintenance owners. Hotel self-purchase — we survey, supply, build and connect the platform; the hotel owns the assets and the charging revenue and pays an annual platform or O&M fee; best for cash-rich owners who want the asset. Joint investment — proportional funding and sharing, for projects that need capacity upgrades or larger scale. Whichever route, the service standard is identical: 7×24 platform monitoring, 4-hour fault response, on-site within 24 hours, no dedicated hotel staff required.
