Key points in this article
A monetisable battery
EVs are no longer just 'power users' but 'flexible power banks' that can be monetised in markets. In Jul 2026 the NEA approved the first V2G aggregators to join real-time spot-market clearing, settlement cut from 'day-ahead' to 15 minutes—charge points can now pool dispersed EVs into a 'virtual power plant', discharging precisely at price peaks and settling at real-time prices. Previously aggregators filed plans a day early; now they stand with generators and storage in the real-time market, and pilots show daily discharge revenue up ~22–28% vs day-ahead.
Rules open doors
Local rules also 'open doors'. Shanxi's plan targets 300 MW aggregated capacity by end-2026 and 600 MW by 2028, letting charge-swap facilities join as independent entities or aggregated VPPs in mid/long-term, spot and frequency regulation; Shandong, with a mature spot market and 3.2M NEVs, lowers entry to 'aggregation unit 1 MW sustained >1h'. Hefei's first V2G demo station, in a late-April incentive, did 1,048 discharge orders, >17 MWh, ~¥46.9k owner revenue, up to ¥2.85/kWh—'low-charge high-discharge' makes the car a real profit asset.
Yantai's future purse
For Yantai owners and operators V2G is a 'future purse', but ordered charging comes first now. Dongdian Huichong's community and public charging notes: before joining V2G, confirm local aggregator market access and whether the stall supports bidirectional metering and ISO 15118-20 comms; for now prefer smart ordered charging to save off-peak and ease the grid, boarding when local market and facilities mature. Turning the car into an 'asset' not a mere 'load'—the advanced green-travel form is approaching.
